I have been having a bad right shoulder / neck pain since I was in the unversity, not because of homework, but the online game !! I stopped playing the online game since I graduated, but unfortunately, my work requires me to be with computer all day. I am sure it's same wuth many people.
Because of the pain, I started to look for solution, I blame my mouse, so I started to use different kinds of mouses: Wirless mouse, "special shaped" mouse, pen mouse. Some help me a bit on the pain, but I gave up because they are not quick enough. Like the pen mouse, I have to spend 5 seconds to get to the right position until I can move it. However, a few month ago, I bought a logitech trackball mouse. Man, I feel at last, I found it. All my other mouses are now in my draw where I am getting a 2nd & 3rd same trackball mouse so that I can use it everywhere and give one to my brother in law.
It's about 25 dolloars in US, while in UK, it's still selling at £25..I don't know why the electronic stuff is always more expensive in UK. The trouble is I couldn't find this mouse in Hong Kong otherwise I am sure it's cheaper!!

Why this trackball mouse helps my pain ? Three facts
1) I can use it with my left hand. I found no matter how good is my mouse, if I use it with my right hand, I will still have shoulder pain later, so I now use left hand while I am a 100% right hand guy. Also, I found you can work faster as you can navigate with left hand while type with right hand (especially, you can easily press "enter" without leaving the mouse.
2) your hand in a more natural position while you are using it. "it's more like in a shaking / chopping hand" position as my hand it nearly vertical while I am using it. An ordinary mouse requires your forearm to twist away from its natural position

3) It's fast and need little space.
Yes, like many people said, you will need some time to practise and get used to it. It took me a day or 2, but then, I found it's really fast. to move from left to right, u just "ROLL" it and it's really easy and fun. Because of the "friction" or "mass", it's certainly easier to move the ball rather than the heavy mouse. To start with, I suggest new users turning the speed /sensitivity lower. Once you get used to the "ball", u can release the max. power.
The only bad thing I could say about the mouse is the "scrolling" ability. With normal mouse, you use the scrolling wheel, but for this mouse, u can use the small "arrow" button on each side of the mouse, but I found they are less sensivity / accuracy compared to normal mouse wheel.
Well, I feel you guy might think I am working for logitech now ....haha..., but I do really impressed.
